'In the Silence of the Night' is a shorter piece for carillon, written more specially for chime of the York Minster.
It is to be played in the early hours of the morning of Christmas day.
The idea is to have no tunes at all before the hour-beat from 18.00 hrs on Christmas Eve, and start with this tune before the 4 o' clock beats on Christmas day, to be followed every next hour by the other tunes that are in the small group of compositions that this piece belongs to:
'The Angels Sing', 'The Astonishment of the Shepherds', 'Into this frosty Night - Rejoice', 'Gracious Mary', and 'In the Manger'.
